GETTING A HIKING PERMIT

Is as simple as 1-2-3

DO I NEED A PERMIT?
If you are planning to hike on Conservancy property and are not camping overnight you need to obtain a day-use permit by following the steps outlined below. If your trip includes multi-day hiking with camping, you need to first obtain camping reservations here. Carry a copy of your camping reservations with you on your trip, because those will serve as your hiking permit. Note that camping fees and availability may vary.

For all other day-use hikers, follow the steps below to obtain your permit.

ONE.
Using the buttons below, create an “Account” or “Login.”

TWO.
Tell us what trail you will be taking, date and time. This information is used in the case of an emergency.

THREE.
Enjoy your hike!

MORE TO KNOW...

The permit is free.
If you would like to make a donation to our trails program, there's an opportunity to do so on the last page.

- No Hiking Permitted After Dark
- Camping in designated campgrounds only. Must obtain appropriate permits and follow all backcountry rules and regulations.
- LEAVE NO TRACE! Pack it in, pack it out.
- Catalina Island is a sensitive eco-system with many plant and animal species present that occur nowhere else in the world. Collect photos and memories only! Leave everything else where you find it!
- Finally, HAVE FUN and bring plenty of water! We are considered a semi-arid (think desert!) environment and our hikes typically have minimal shade.

Creating an account keeps your personal information secure. Note the "https" and lock on the URL on your browser. This area of the website is PCI compliant and endorsed with an SSL certificate. The Catalina Island Conservancy does not share or sell contact information with anyone. We will, about once a year, share information about Conservancy-guided hikes on Catalina Island.

We have an app for that map! Explore Catalina with our iPhone and Droid app. The new application offers a GPS driven map that allows the user to experience a guided walk to some of our most popular trails.* The bundled app costs $3.99, with a portion of your purchase going to support the Catalina Island Conservancy's work to keep Catalina wildlands wild. Works with iPhone (4.0+ of the iPhone Operating System), iPad, iPod Touch and Android. While on your phone, search for "Santa Catalina Island" in your iStore or Android Market. Click on this symbol for more information.

The Conservancy also offers a paper hiking map for purchase at our Conservancy Explore Store in Avalon, Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden, Nature Center at Avalon Canyon and Airport in the Sky.

Please note that wildlife on Catalina Island, as in all wildlands,
can cause serious injury and even death. Please do not approach
or harass wildlife and always maintain a safe distance.
